﻿🔥﻿ Over 70% of Colombia territory is on high alert for wildfires! Since January 23th 2024 the Colombian mountains started burning. During the last week fires destroyed more than 17.000 hectares of the Paramos in more than 30 regions. The paramos play a fundamental role in sustaining the lives of millions of people, providing essential ecosystem services such as water production for urban use, irrigation and hydropower generation. Paramos soils and vegetation provide efficient forms of carbon storage and sequestration. As <a href="https://www.cumbresblancas.co/?lang=en" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Cumbres Blancas</a> mission is to GENERATE AN ENCOUNTER WITH OUR NATURE RECOGNIZING THEIR CURRENT STATUS AND DISSEMINATING ACTIONS FOR THEIR CARE, We have been working the last 3 years to regenerate, educate and preserve the Páramos ecosystem to keep glaciers temperatures cool down before they completely disappear in less than 10 years.
