<p>Every night, I cry in my room because my dream of becoming a doctor is dying. I’m a 20-year-old girl from a developing country, where women are always oppressed and their freedom is taken away. When I was a kid, my dad passed away, and I’ve always dreamed of becoming a successful doctor so my mom could be proud of me, a mom who aged under the weight of financial and family problems, who never got to enjoy her youth and carried the burden of life alone. Now my uncle, an aggressive guy with anti-woman views who always harasses me and my mom, wants to force me to marry a man as old as my dad, 38 years older than me. When I oppose this forced marriage and say I want to study, he beats me and harasses my mom. He mocks me, saying girls shouldn’t study or go to university, that education is for boys. I dream of studying medicine abroad, but I don’t even have money to apply. For application, agent fees, language classes, and initial costs like documents, plane tickets, and basic stuff, I need $7,000. Medical school tuition is $10,000 a year, and medicine takes 6 years. For monthly expenses and dorm or housing, I need $1,000 a month. Without your help, I’ll be forced to live a life I hate. Please help me escape this country, my cruel uncle, and this forced marriage to save myself and my mom.
