Innovation in the DAO ecosystem has been outpacing the rate at which relevant legal clarity is established, leaving entrepreneurs, investors, and changemakers in the dark as to how to compliantly proceed.

The DAO Coalition intends to help shed a light on some of these matters, by tapping into the insights and opinions of the various DAO communities, and advocating on behalf of them.

DAO Coalition was formed by a coalition of DAOs!

LexDAO's proposal to fund DAO Coalition is here.

To successfully lobby in Washington DC, an organization needs 2 things:

  1. have a sizable enough amount of money to lobby
  2. represent a sizable enough coalition of arms-length entities

Since formation, DAO Coalition has done quite a bit as it waited for 501(c)4 status to be able to safely raise funds to pay for lobbying work in USA.

learned our strategy to appoint 1 delegate per DAO wasn't going to work in the short-run

  • DAOs aren't used to appointing delegates
  • creating the procedure to be able to do so is too much of a lift

decided our first strategy should be to allow anyone in a DAO to signal their preferences though our lobbyist

invested in developers to achieve this goal in with a permissionless, forkable civics stack

  • Hats Protocol x Snapshot.org to be able to vote here
  • Hats Protocol x Gitcoin Passport for Sybil defense here
  • Hats Protocol x Unlock Protocol for revenue here

got 501(c)4 status in the Spring of 2024

  • then attended DC Blockchain Summit and DC DAO launch party to start the lobbying process

planning for "ZuMore" where we host a pop-up city in Baltimore

  • establish roots in the city
  • lobbying access to DC

For now, our request for funds is to pay our dev to continue to add modules to our permissionless, forkable civics stack.
