<h1>Who are we ?</h1><p>Cosmos for Humanity is a <a href="https://cosmosforhumanity.eu/en" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">non-profit NGO based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland</a>. We aim to defend an environmentally and economically sustainable access to outer space for humanity. Faced with the problem of space pollutions and space debris, we are all responsible: governments and the space industry, but also us, citizens and companies.</p><p><img src="https://giveth.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/QmbDprPzDV98nM5w6UkSky9QNoCRWJXhWH3idomEgRYHX4" style="display: block; margin: auto;"></p><p><br></p><p>Today, without us really being aware of it, humanity tends to depend on satellites as much as it depends on electricity: if tomorrow all satellites disappeared<a href="https://youtu.be/jVzbs81bDy0)," rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">,</a> our civilization would falter.</p><div class="ql-video-wrapper"><iframe class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jVzbs81bDy0?showinfo=0"></iframe></div><p>Similarly, our efforts to combat global warming and the pursuit of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals <a href="https://www.unoosa.org/oosa/en/ourwork/space4sdgs/index.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">depend on our satellite capabilities</a>: it is now essential to maintain them.</p><p><br></p><h1>What are our missions ?</h1><ol><li><strong>Educate </strong>and structure a community of citizens committed to preserving sustainable access to space for humanity.</li><li><strong>Enable </strong>citizens and businesses to choose space operators on the basis of their environmental performance thanks to an indicator, the Outer Space Footprint (OSF).</li><li><strong>Encourage </strong>operators and companies committed to a sustainable approach to space activities through a collaborative label.</li><li><strong>Help </strong>companies meet the environmental challenges associated with space activities and to integrate citizens into their CSR approach thanks to the C4H label and C4H's public utility status in Switzerland. </li><li><strong>Promote </strong>the incorporation of orbit protection as the 7th EU environmental objective so that OSF documentation is made mandatory for European companies <a href="https://finance.ec.europa.eu/capital-markets-union-and-financial-markets/company-reporting-and-auditing/company-reporting/corporate-sustainability-reporting_en" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">NFRD / CSRD directives</a> and that sustainable space activities are considered as "sustainable activities" in the sense of the <a href="https://finance.ec.europa.eu/sustainable-finance/tools-and-standards/eu-taxonomy-sustainable-activities_en" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">European Green Taxonomy.</a></li></ol><p><br></p><h1>Our "MVP" ?</h1><ul><li>A non-profit NGO recognized as being in the public interest in Switzerland that allows companies to specifically finance the sustainable development of space activities by benefiting from advantageous taxation.</li><li>An indicator, the Outer Space Footprint (OSF) :</li></ul><p><br></p><p><img src="https://giveth.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/QmU3YnaC1mTUT4XVWy3AWefj3dMR1dmqsxiitCLdm3TF96" style="display: block; margin: auto;" width="167"></p><p><br></p><h1>Our long term objectives :</h1><ol><li><strong>Advocating </strong>widespread adoption of the Outer Space Footprint.</li><li><strong>Create </strong>a citizen-led eco-label dedicated to studying the outer space environmental impact of companies. Our goal is to create a new way of looking at consumer labels, without the use of trusted third parties and in particular auditing firms <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jul/26/blue-ticked-off-the-controversy-over-the-msc-fish-ecolabel" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">that have conflicts of interest with companies</a>.</li><li><strong>Develop </strong>a neutral platform of Space Traffic Management to preserve the Orbits as a Commons: <a href="https://spacedao.ai/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">SpaceDAO</a>.</li></ol><h1><br></h1><h1>Last updates :</h1><ul><li>C4H is <a href="https://esoc.esa.int/supporting-zero-debris-charter" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">a signatory of the ESA (European Space Agency) Zero Debris Charter</a>. It is the only NGO among the first 70 signatories to this charter.&nbsp;</li><li>C4H has officially integrated SpaceDAO into its structure.</li><li>C4H DAO is <a href="https://launchpad.ixo.world/entity/did:ixo:entity:c30394ed20769f5c3799d39a25bcd03d/overview" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">live</a> on ixo.</li><li>Claire Elss <a href="https://www.rts.ch/play/tv/forum/video/forum-des-idees-cosmos-for-humanity-long-qui-defend-un-espace-durable?urn=urn:rts:video:14657675" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">presented C4H on the program "Le Forum des idées"</a> broadcast live on RTS (Radio Télévision Suisse francophone) on 26 January 2024.</li><li>C4H was the subject of its <a href="https://www.lenouvelliste.ch/suisse/claire-elss-fondatrice-de-cosmos-for-humanity-l-espace-doit-etre-protege-comme-les-forets-et-les-oceans-1353682" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">very first article</a> in the French-speaking Swiss regional daily newspaper "Arc info" on 11 January 2024.</li><li>In December, we have  presented the results our study, carried out in partnership with CNES, on the architecture of a space industry pivot towards sustainable space activities. </li><li>C4H and the <a href="https://launchpad.ixo.world/entity/did:ixo:entity:2f22535f8b179a51d77a0e302e68d35d/overview" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">ImpactsDAO Cooperative</a> have <a href="https://impacts.ixo.world/we-are-stopping-unsustainable-exploitation-of-earths-orbits/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">officialized their partnership</a> to build the C4H label's infrastructure on ixo.</li><li>C4H's president Claire Elss spoke at a conference in November on <a href="https://en.arcep.fr/news/press-releases/view/n/satellites-and-environnement-event-ademe-arcep-cnes-201123.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">satellites and orbital preservation</a> organised by the French telecoms (ARCEP), environmental protection (ADEME) and space (CNES) agencies.</li><li>We applied to the Space 4 Sustainability award of the European Space Agency (ESA) in June 2023. We didn't win, but we did have the opportunity to get feedback on OSF from ESA officials. And more: we understood that the good contact to "sell" the OSF was not the ESA, but the EUSPA (European Union Agency for the Space Program).</li><li>In a <a href="https://defence-industry-space.ec.europa.eu/targeted-consultation-eu-space-law_en" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">survey </a>released the 27th of September 2023, the EU Commission asked to European space stakeholders their opinion on a "EU Space label". We are not alone anymore to back this idea !</li><li>We have delivered the third part of our partnership with CNES concerning OSF. Our aim now is to convince the French space agency to promote OSF within the European Union.</li><li>We produced our first educational content in <a href="https://medium.com/cosmos-for-humanity-english" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">English</a>, <a href="https://medium.com/cosmos-for-humanity-fran%C3%A7ais" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">French</a>, <a href="https://medium.com/cosmos-for-humanity-italiano" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Italian</a>, <a href="https://medium.com/cosmos-for-humanity-deutsch" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">German</a>, <a href="https://medium.com/cosmos-for-humanity-espa%C3%B1ol" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Spanish</a> and <a href="https://medium.com/cosmos-for-humanity-%D1%80%D1%83%D1%81%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%B9" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Russian</a> on the sustainable development of space activities.</li><li>We participated in the French translation of GreenPilled, as part of the GreenPill Afrique Francophone Chapter. The eBook is available&nbsp;<a href="https://greenpill.network/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a>&nbsp;!</li><li>We had the opportunity to promote OSF at the "Regen Ignite" event during ETHCC in Paris at the invitation of Sparx Lab (Thank you Jake !), and alongside&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/JimiCohen" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Jimi</a>&nbsp;!!</li><li>We got the 3rd place in the Swiss ranking of the <a href="https://polygon.nftscan.com/0x115cc61a1980295e43f813adec68769c50057088/45" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">European Commission’s Cassini Hackhaton</a> with a <a href="http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/cosmos-for-humanity-space-debris-falls_829034#3/44.84/29.62" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">small tool </a>to visualize on a map the space debris falls listed in the last 10 years.</li></ul><h1><br></h1><h1>What we will do next :</h1><ul><li>Open membership of our NGO to all citizens.
