<h1>The Promises of Web3:</h1>Web3 aims to create a fairer, more secure internet where <a href="https://www.togggle.io/blog/mastering-your-web3-identity-ownership-control" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">you control</a> your own data and identity. This is accomplished by directly owning your online presence, easily moving between platforms, and creators getting <a href="https://freesharing.eu/the-role-of-decentralized-platforms-in-ensuring-fair-compensation-for-content-creators-in-the-crypto-space/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">paid fairly</a> without centralized gatekeepers taking the value and holding your reputation hostage. Web3 promises a more transparent and trustworthy online experience, giving individuals more <a href="https://www.forbes.com/councils/forbestechcouncil/2024/09/04/web3-and-the-future-of-media-empowering-creators-in-a-decentralized-ecosystem/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">power and choice</a>. Few would argue with this noble intention. But intentions don’t always dictate results!<h1>Where are We At?</h1>When examining the main narratives that drive the most adoption, it is not a stretch to say the mainstream isn’t seeing the value propositions described in the promise above. Adoption is rather being driven by <a href="https://blog.web3labs.com/potential-of-web3" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">speculative hope</a> in making life changing wealth. Investors and influencers <a href="https://alpaca.vc/2023/10/field-study-alpacas-thesis-on-web3-ventures-most-controversial-space/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">control the capital flow</a> in this narrative, while the value driven creators are pressured to <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/uniswap-foundation-delays-vote-on-uni-staking-rewards" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">sell out or capitulate</a>. It may not be surprising that this mindset drives the popular narrative, given the <a href="https://www.neuroscienceof.com/human-nature-blog/social-media-influencer-american-dream" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">nature of human behavior</a>, but the question remains: What is <a href="https://www.mckinsey.com/industries/financial-services/our-insights/web3-beyond-the-hype" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">still missing</a> to push forward the <a href="https://paragraph.xyz/@trigs/the-way-of-the-punk" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">value driven narrative</a> that gave birth to this technology? This is the question we aim to answer.<h1>Who are We?</h1>We are <a href="https://paragraph.xyz/@nearchos/we-are-nearchos" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Nearchos</a>! We are collaborators who recognized early on that we work better together. Each of us have unique skills and passions that lend well to accomplishing our collective goals. We were drawn together by our shared goals, and we are bound together by our unwavering commitment to our values. Diverging from the mainstream narrative of a tech-heavy ecosystem, we believe that people are the center of Web3, not protocols. Just as the heliocentric model revolutionized our understanding of the solar system, we believe that placing people at the center of the web3 ecosystem is the key to unlocking the full potential of our shared values. This won’t happen by accident, however. It requires an intentional design!<img src="https://giveth.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/QmXxVjoRQeFAzs7VR7sfNrTh67kjf86LkP64wex72xtWeM">To set that intention, our mission is rooted in six core pillars of technological innovation we feel are necessary for this journey: <ul><li>Self-Sovereign Identities – Empowering individuals to control their own data and identity.</li><li>Secure Communication – Utilizing communication frameworks that are both open as well as accessible, and cannot be manipulated by outside forces.</li><li>Social Engagement – Embracing the online &amp; async nature of the modern global society.</li><li>Collaborative Tools – Focusing on tools that foster collaborative work, breaking individuals out of their silos.</li><li>Knowledge Management – Promoting autonomous access to insights and expertise instead of creating walled gardens and black boxes.</li><li>Decentralized Consensus – Encouraging reputation driven governance and redefining the role of trust in a trustless execution environment.</li></ul> Each of these pillars is interconnected with the others. None can stand alone, and together they make up the foundation upon which a truly decentralized society can be built. Any of them on their own, however, are at risk of <a href="https://spengrah.mirror.xyz/f6bZ6cPxJpP-4K_NB7JcjbU0XblJcaf7kVLD75dOYRQ" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">capture and corruption</a>. This is the holistic approach that will build<a href="https://paragraph.xyz/@trigs/what-is-dao-may-never-die" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> robust systems of organization</a> that will outlive their individual creators. <h1>What are we doing?</h1>Community Mood Maps is our seminal research project that is dedicated to uncovering the <a href="https://paragraph.xyz/@trigs/the-attention-economy" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">use-cases</a> that will drive technological development towards these foundational pillars of innovation. We want to infiltrate the projects and communities of not only the web3 &amp; web2 world, but also out into the trenches of real life where some of the strongest communities have existed without reliance on the internet or technology. This is where we will find the people who stand to benefit the most from the progression of web3 values through technical innovation. This work includes, but is not limited to:<ul><li>Community Research, including web2&amp;web3 and also IRL</li><li>Collaboration with other projects doing similar work</li><li>Use Case development of tangible needs of real users</li><li>Business Development work connecting public goods providing pieces of the puzzle</li><li>Content Creation and Educational resources for onboarding more individuals and communities into the value-driven ethos of web3</li></ul> Everything will be built and executed with an emphasis on dogfooding the exploration into open data and transparent operations. Everything we do will drive open collaboration and transparent execution, bringing along the entire community that this value-driven mission attracts. <h1>Why are we requesting support?</h1>The time is now to unite all of our communities working individually in the silos and shadows of web3. There has never been a more pivotal moment, and we may never see another opportunity for the collective vision of the decentralized movement to get pushed into the mainstream before ‘crypto’ is captured and the value driven web3 is lost forever, like so many superior technologies that got outcompeted by <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/tendayiviki/2022/09/06/value-propositions-and-business-models-matter-more-than-technology/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">effective business and marketing</a>. Focusing on this task requires setting aside obligations that generate cashflow to pay bills. Through our work we want to openly help and support all the other projects in the ecosystem that are building in ways that support the 6 pillars of web3, but to do that we have to step back from active participation with projects that have a financial interest in the way we spend our time. That means, while we will still serve as council members for projects that are providing non financial token based ownership as compensation– or simply be unpaid volunteers– we will have to transition away from paid roles that have heavier demands on our time and attention (and potentially might have a vested interest in the outcome of our work). This means that we have to rely on Public Goods funding to produce this research. We understand that proof of ship is required for PGFs, so we have been self-funding our work so far. To move to the next step, however, we need more focus and increased collaboration. We, as a community, cannot afford to sleep on the pivotal opportunity that this next year will be. Our initial goal is simply to raise enough funds to afford a modest monthly stipend for our contributors to justify locking in their attention and focus to produce the initial momentum for this movement. 50k is our target goal to lock in 2025 and set us up to have no distractions while we build the foundation of what will become an ongoing initiative that grows beyond us and our individual limitations. If we raise beyond that we will have transparent discussions with our supporters about the most effective ways to scale this faster than our current plan. If we receive less, we will continue self funding and move forward at whatever pace we can afford. This project cannot stop! As the output of our work delivers value, we will scale our expectations up in parallel with our contributor base and financial needs. What direction this takes will depend on the contributions of those who join us on this epic quest to usher the world down <a href="https://vitalik.eth.limo/general/2023/11/27/techno_optimism.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">the decentralized path</a>. <h1>What qualifies us?</h1>We have personal expertise, having worked with a diverse range of Web3 projects to foster engagement and collaboration.<ul><li>Operated (and eventually sunset) an web3 investment DAO, <a href="https://medium.com/@reverseprotocolONE" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Reverse Protocol</a></li><li>Co-Founded a Decentralized Infrastructure Org, <a href="https://kleomed.es/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kleomedes</a></li><li>Drove community engagement programs within the Cosmos ecosystem, utilizing tools like Zealy</li><li>Built and operated an onboarding campaign for projects like <a href="https://reserve.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Reserve Protocol</a> and <a href="https://linktr.ee/0xnftreasure" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">NFTreasure</a></li><li>Actively serving on DAO councils for <a href="https://octant.app/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Octant</a> and CoDAO (<a href="https://coordinape.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Coordinape</a>)</li><li>Advisors to many projects and communities such as <a href="https://daodao.zone/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">DAO DAO</a>, <a href="https://x.com/cCDAO_space" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">CcDAO </a>(Cheqd), <a href="https://x.com/ELI5DAO" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">ELI5 DAO</a>, and numerous Cosmos Chains/Projects.</li></ul> Through this work we’ve been BD consultants, Marketing Agents, Content Creators, Governance Leaders, Educators, Analysts, Community Members, and Council Advisors. We’ve been featured on podcasts, recorded podcasts of our own, ran and participated in live spaces, hosted community events, and everything else you can imagine from active DAOists with, collectively, a decade of dedicated work. <h1>What are our Milestones?</h1>Q1 2025: Continue expanding interviews and data gathering while solidifying some initial basic tooling to facilitate the process, kicking off with an interview on <a href="https://pods.media/the-optimism-show" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Optimism Show</a>. The first step is gathering all prior work and connecting everyone already focused on this same narrative so we stop duplicating effort.Q2 2025: Expand research activities and engage communities through live events, kicking off at EthDenver with the <a href="https://carrotcastle.xyz" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Carrot Castle</a>Q3 2025: Analyze collected data and synthesize initial findings.Q4 2025: Publish the inaugural Community Mood Map Report with insights and recommendations.Annually: Continue the initiative, tracking sentiment shifts and ecosystem evolution year after year while constantly improving the process based on our values and progressing the development of the 6 pillars of web3.
