Both catastrophic and impoverishing health payments increased with increased village deprivation. However, the presence of village lands shade some lights as most households are seen trying to depend on agriculture for their survival. Most of our agricultural farms are located at hillsides while others are regularly affected by storm water. The frequency of erosion has been increasing over the years, resulting in loss of life to crops, damage to property and destruction of the environment..From these events, the Village Development committee (VDC) and the KotienoCommunity Organisation through participatory vulnerability assessment, identified the following stiff challenges:Approaches to help solve the challenges by the community Some of our achievements since 2020Fees to the orphansFood to the poorVegetable farming for our beneficiaries' consumption Tree planting Water for drinking when there is no rainsTree nursery worksThis is the break down of the items that we need for now.No. Item Cost Urgency1 Drinking water $140 Very very urgent2 Delivery pipe $350 Very urgent3 Food for volunteers $200 Urgent/ next week4 Student debt $2000 Instalments within 6 months, first instalment($500) urgent.5 An additional 10k litres tank and installation. $13006 An ox- drawn plough plus 2 bulls $750 Required7 Fencing a 2ha farm $500 Required8 Electricity installation $700 Required9 Construction of 3-door toilet $800 Urgent10 Construction of a store $500 RequiredTotal $7240RationaleThe project is very important as it will build capacity of local people to prepare, mitigate and recover from poor environmental management and poverty. Target BeneficiariesVulnerable people in this community and beyond. These include but not limited to orphans, widows, and lame. The project will be implemented in the area of Traditional Authority Kotieno, some distance from Olare centre.About 650people.The project will be a failure if the communities will not fulfil their contributions in terms of strict management and care to the assets and services already put in place. We assume that the communities know their problem and that development comes from within the community.
