We estimate the property damage alone to be between €50.000 and €70.000, it’s still hard to tell. The biggest damage, however, is all the dreams, all the joy, all the memories we made with you over the years, which are now drowning in a sea of sadness. We had devoted more than three years of our lives to this project, all of which has now been wiped out in a few days. We know the perpetrator very well but cannot reveal their identity nor details on how this tragedy came about until the police investigation is finished and the courts have spoken. I know that you will have a lot of questions, but I hope you understand that we have to stick to this in order to protect ourselves and the project from further harm. The Commons Hub had planned for a massive season this year. We already had over 70 days of events confirmed, had assembled a team of three awesome employees, had planned a new roadside cafe, a boulder wall, and much more. To achieve this, Emil and Felix made plenty of investments over the last months, including an eco-friendly pellet oven that cost over €80.000. We both put the lion’s share of our personal savings into this project, believing that we were building the foundation for a transformation of our village into a testing ground for emerging technologies and the commons. All of this is now impossible - we had to cancel all bookings, move the few leftover belongings out of the house in a rush, and wrap our heads around the fact that there will be no season for the Hub this year, and that we will likely have to look for a new venue if we ever want to host events again. All in all, including the lost revenue of a full year, we are talking about a financial damage of at least €150.000 - €200.000. As you can imagine, the situation continues to be extremely taxing for our mental health. We are dealing with police, lawyers and insurance on a daily basis, and are trying to get through this day by day. Unfortunately it seems insurance won’t cover the damage, only legal costs, and even if we succeed in a civil court we will likely have to wait 2-3 years for reparations. If you know us, you will know that we wouldn’t ask if it weren’t necessary. We have always tried to give more than we take, to put our (family’s) property to the best use for our community and for the ideas it stands for. With this in mind, we are now asking you, the Community of the Commons Hub, for help. There are multiple ways in which you can support us. Donations on Giveth and in upcoming Gitcoin rounds help us sustain the project and replace the broken hardware required to start doing events again. Finally, we are of course also grateful for spreading the word and retweeting our story to as many people as possible.&nbsp; Over the last few years, we, all together, have started something wonderful in this little village at the eastern foot of the Austrian Alps. It will take time and effort, but we will rebuild and will come out of this stronger than before. While events for this season are cancelled, we are optimistic to at least have a Crypto Commons Gathering 2024, and re-open the Hub in 2025.
