<h2>Hello World! 🌊🐠✨</h2> <a href="https://linktr.ee/mesoreefdao" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">MesoReefDAO</a> (Mesoamerican Reef DAO) is a Regenerative Coral Reef Science project that focuses on the creation of a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) of DeSci (Decentralized Science) that seeks to scale coral reef conservation efforts in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. <img src="https://giveth.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/QmcpiDp3sBiJESWxLDWmXtfq8Wpht4xbqWHWo3zVosWKL4"> The Mesoamerican Reef is one of the most biodiverse and productive marine ecosystems in the world, providing crucial ecosystem services, such as coastal protection, fisheries, and tourism, to millions of people in the region. It stretches over 1,000 kilometers from the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico to the Bay Islands in Honduras (Fig 1). <img src="https://giveth.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/QmY51bBh2CakufUVZzY2g93ak8Qh69afUzcNM1tjCdDHwi"><a href="https://www.wwfca.org/en/landscapes/mesoamerican_reef/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" class="ql-size-small">Fig 1. A map of the Mesoamerican Reef, created by © WWF Guatemala.</a> MesoReefDAO is working to establish partnerships with local communities, NGOs, and governments to support the implementation of sustainable fishing practices and the development of marine protected areas in the MAR. MesoReefDAO General Framework.</a> MesoReefDAO is built on the Ethereum blockchain and is governed by a community of stakeholders who share a common interest in conserving and restoring the MAR. The DAO's governance structure is designed to be transparent, inclusive, and democratic, allowing anyone to participate and contribute to decision-making processes. The DAO's mission is to leverage the power of decentralized technologies to enable innovative solutions to the challenges facing the MAR. One of the key initiatives of MesoReefDAO is to develop a regenerative decentralized science (DeSci) offset program. The program will incentivize individuals and organizations to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to MAR conservation efforts. The fund will support the development and implementation of coral reef restoration projects in the MAR region. The fund will be managed by the DAO's community and will be open to contributions from anyone who wants to support the conservation and restoration of the MAR. Overall, MesoReefDAO is a cutting-edge initiative that seeks to harness the power of decentralized technologies to address the urgent challenges facing the Mesoamerican Reef. <h2>A decentralized scientific publishing platform&nbsp;</h2>DeSci Reviews formerly The DeSci Journal is a journal-as-a service platform for knowledge creators. Create your journal, publish your paper while maintaining 100% of your copyright. Nowadays, scientists have 0%, yes zero percent, of their copyright from legacy publishing houses. Together these publishing houses generate as much revenue as the music industry, i.e., 26 bi USD/ year. We will change all this. The DeSci Journal is a starting point for Authors to be in contact with a new form of publishing and financing their scientific and technical work. <h2>How we are solving</h2>By creating an alternative to an oligopolistic scientific publication industry which generates 26Bi USD/ year. In this industry, authors (scientists), reviewers and most editors (also scientists) do not get paid for working in the peer-reviewing process of papers for their science journals. Authors pay for publishing, pay for open access and moreover, give away their copyright. Universities and Research Institutions pay outrageous subscriptions so that alumni and staff have access to journals.Scientific publishing houses and science journals have outrageously high publication fees. These fees range from 2 to 6k USD for 1 paper, some charge 10k-15 USD/ paper. DeSci LATAM is a public good with the mission to promote the advancement of science in Latin America, by building a bridge between the scientific community and the blockchain ecosystem.&nbsp; DeSci LATAM was founded in June 2022 to become the Spanish-speaking community and to make the knowledge of DeSci available in Spanish and Portuguese. We organized and hosted the first DeSci event in Buenos Aires, and co-organized an event in Rio de Janeiro. We participated in a DeSci panel at ETH Brazil. We presented this year at Vitalia, where we discussed DeSci and our activities at DeSci LATAM to bring attention to DeSci and our region. We also want to produce more articles, livestreams and other content related to DeSci, promoting open science and decentralization. Over the past few years, we’ve been proud to steward DeSci funding rounds on Gitcoin. But science thrives on experimentation, and nature depends on diversity to survive. So far, we have allocated over $711K in funding to 249 DeSci projects.
