Grassroots Economics seeks to connect people to their own abundance by supporting them in pooling their commitments or resources together in the form of Community Asset Vouchers - which are blockchain based credit obligations backed by the goods and services of community groups in vulnerable communities in Kenya and growing to other countries. On the conservation and restoration side, local communities use a variety of&nbsp;dMRV (Decentralized Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) and DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network)&nbsp;techniques to show "Proof of Care", or proof that the funds are used towards sustainable stewardship. This brings local employment to the communities, and allows us to gather vast amounts of machine learning-ready forest data. Pricing is dynamically decided by our Indigenous and Local Data Councils, that GainForest helps to set up. We are convinced that data payments are the key to creating a reliable income source for local communities. Data regarding biodiversity in the Global South is scarce. Many species of plants and animals in these regions remain undiscovered and undocumented.&nbsp;A conservation-focused data collection initiative would create a global data commons, propelling&nbsp;the advancement of AI and biodiversity research in these areas. <h2>Revitalizing Bike Workshops to Support IDPs and Eco-Villages in Ukraine</h2> <h2>Our story</h2> The bicycle industry is rapidly developing, but many countries face the challenge of disposing of old bicycles. Meanwhile, internally displaced people in Ukrainian eco-villages struggle with transportation in rural areas. With a bit of creativity and inventory skills, we are gradually addressing both issues. Our initiative aims to improve transportation within eco-villages and local communities, fostering a circular economy between developed countries with a surplus of used bicycles and Ukraine. During the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, we faced numerous challenges, from the total destruction of cities to mass emigration to safer rural areas. At 90 locations of our eco-villages and permaculture centers, we have accommodated around 3,500 displaced people, primarily women and children. There is an urgent need to address mobility issues. Bicycles have become essential as transportation due to a shortage of cars and funds for their maintenance and fuel.<img src="https://giveth.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/QmcR8eHEEFpCqcRmdjoaB2jyej977P1W6bYqjncxPqGvj2">These reasons prompted us to launch a <a href="https://greenroad.in.ua/electric-bicycles-for-ua" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">bicycle collection campaign</a>.With the help of Taras Prystavsky, Anastasia Martynenko, and the Danish Eco-village Network, our ecovillagers received over 150 used bicycles from Denmark and the Netherlands. We repaired them and sent them to more than 35 locations for the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and ecovillagers. Why Is This Important to Us? The unique feature of Ukrainian eco-villages is the distances. Often, ecovillagers have not only poor roads but also 2, 5, or 10 kilometers of poor roads to shops, schools, centers, between neighbors, and to common spaces. Unfortunately, these distances make it difficult to unite, joint quickly all together, or even to conduct communal activities.<img src="https://giveth.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/QmRk4EaofYXMJ5M93tQbFu1JDqB4QVZ7HaY8mQSwCu9Fxd">The current situation includes a significant number of internally displaced persons hosted by our locations. These are often women with children and older people, most of whom lack means of transportation. Electric transport and battery recycling—upgrading used European bicycles to electric power—allow covering greater distances with less energy expenditure. Batteries also help solve electricity needs during blackouts. Jobs Creation<img src="https://giveth.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/Qme8bGAG6Y7CXP8GFms15CEyXfyehwsYpw5vJ5M6ieJEvC">Our workshops, primarily staffed by male refugees, provide new, in-demand professions. We have trained about two dozen craftsmen in bicycle upgrading, and some have secured jobs and orders for electric bikes. Community Quality of Life In addition to ensuring mobility for local settlers and displaced persons, we have conducted numerous repairs for local communities, significantly improving mobility and activity compared to neighboring villages. Modernization and Technology<img src="https://giveth.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/Qmc8483nGw6fhCKbVhmzd9r1U3ngy57erPX3s4wgTYvjJn">The next step was the need for regular or situational repair, maintenance, and upgrading of these used bicycles and many other bicycles, charging stations, or vehicles that require care. We have formed a request to create repair hubs, situational, mobile, or stationary bike workshops. We face a significant shortage of labor, especially qualified male workers, as many have gone to the frontline to protect their families. Many are unable to work due to stress and psychological trauma from the war. Many live in complete uncertainty about the future. As coordinators of the eco-village network, our task was to give people new meanings and inspiration for action, faith in the future, and especially to men, new meanings and demand in a setting where they are primarily seen as a resource for mobilization to war.<img src="https://giveth.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/QmWLSLiFDMZQzz5KVhiH6QuaCfraFePFMfUsciu4UXLsGe">We launched a training process in Lviv at professional urban bike workshops, involving profile excursions, testing, battery soldering, and assembling electric bikes. Battery Restoration for E-bikesA significant part of our initiative involves restoring batteries for electric bikes, giving them a second life and extending their usage. Our workshops specialize in refurbishing outdated or broken lithium batteries, transforming them into functional and reliable power sources for e-bikes. This process not only reduces electronic waste but also promotes the sustainable use of resources, making electric bikes a more viable and eco-friendly transportation option for our communities. Common Spaces for Refugees and Ecovillages in Ukraine

In Ukraine, communities today face a double crisis: the devastation of war and the accelerating impacts of climate change. Beyond the destruction of homes and infrastructure, many regions are experiencing desertification—water tables are dropping, wells are drying, and fertile land is turning barren.In our ecovillages and grassroots settlements, we are not only supporting displaced families and refugees but also caring for animals and preserving the ecosystems around us. To survive and regenerate, water security has become our most urgent need.This project focuses on restoring and regenerating water systems in small communities across Ukraine through:<ul><li>Deepening and restoring wells so villages have reliable access to clean water.</li><li>Creating rainwater harvesting systems to capture and store seasonal rainfall for household and agricultural use.</li><li>Building irrigation and micro-irrigation systems that make local food growing possible despite droughts and disrupted supply chains.</li></ul>Water is life, and for our communities it is also survival, dignity, and resilience.
