Grassroots Economics seeks to connect people to their own abundance by supporting them in pooling their commitments or resources together in the form of Community Asset Vouchers - which are blockchain based credit obligations backed by the goods and services of community groups in vulnerable communities in Kenya and growing to other countries. Our vision is of communities creating their own medium of exchange linked to local values and connected to other communities via <a href="https://grassecon.org/commitment-pooling" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Commitment Pooling</a> and creating an emergent, healthy polycentric economic system. ReFi DAO | Unlocking a Global Regen CoordiNATION

<a href="https://linktr.ee/theblockchainsocialist" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Blockchain Socialist</a> is a platform that publishes blogs, podcasts, and videos on the intersection between crypto and left politics hosted by Joshua Dávila the author of <a href="https://linktr.ee/blockchainradicals" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Blockchain Radicals: How Capitalism Ruined Crypto and How to Fix It</a>. The platform has been an important and free resource for more progressive minded people to understand and get involved in crypto. It also brings an important analysis to the socioeconomic structures that currently make up in crypto while being constructive, pointing at directions that the ecosystem could go instead. I’ve covered concepts critical to understand for the crypto world like DAOs, platform cooperatives, the meaning of money, alternative monetary systems like mutual credit, consensus mechanisms of blockchains, decentralized finance, regenerative finance, NFTs and art, anonymity, decentralized social media and identity, crypto scams, MEV, cryptography, cybernetics, public goods funding, tech ideology, use cases for crypto in sanctioned countries, solidarity primitives, and much more. We’ve also started a subseries within the podcast focused on critiquing and providing an alternative framework and concept to network states expounded by the venture capitalist Balaji Sirinivasan with collaborators from Blockchaingov like Primavera De Filippi, one of the first legal scholars to focus on blockchain. We estimate the property damage alone to be between €50.000 and €70.000, it’s still hard to tell. The biggest damage, however, is all the dreams, all the joy, all the memories we made with you over the years, which are now drowning in a sea of sadness. We had devoted more than three years of our lives to this project, all of which has now been wiped out in a few days. We know the perpetrator very well but cannot reveal their identity nor details on how this tragedy came about until the police investigation is finished and the courts have spoken. I know that you will have a lot of questions, but I hope you understand that we have to stick to this in order to protect ourselves and the project from further harm. The Commons Hub had planned for a massive season this year. We already had over 70 days of events confirmed, had assembled a team of three awesome employees, had planned a new roadside cafe, a boulder wall, and much more. To achieve this, Emil and Felix made plenty of investments over the last months, including an eco-friendly pellet oven that cost over €80.000. We both put the lion’s share of our personal savings into this project, believing that we were building the foundation for a transformation of our village into a testing ground for emerging technologies and the commons. All of this is now impossible - we had to cancel all bookings, move the few leftover belongings out of the house in a rush, and wrap our heads around the fact that there will be no season for the Hub this year, and that we will likely have to look for a new venue if we ever want to host events again. All in all, including the lost revenue of a full year, we are talking about a financial damage of at least €150.000 - €200.000. As you can imagine, the situation continues to be extremely taxing for our mental health. We are dealing with police, lawyers and insurance on a daily basis, and are trying to get through this day by day. Unfortunately it seems insurance won’t cover the damage, only legal costs, and even if we succeed in a civil court we will likely have to wait 2-3 years for reparations. If you know us, you will know that we wouldn’t ask if it weren’t necessary. We have always tried to give more than we take, to put our (family’s) property to the best use for our community and for the ideas it stands for. With this in mind, we are now asking you, the Community of the Commons Hub, for help. There are multiple ways in which you can support us. The <a href="https://breadchain.xyz/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Breadchain Cooperative</a> builds Solidarity Primitives - development tools which help to forge solidarity between individuals and collectives. The first solidarity primitive created by the Breadchain Cooperative is the BREAD community token found on the <a href="https://app.breadchain.xyz/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bread Crowdstaking Application</a>. BREAD can also be used on Giveth for donations and qualify for Givbacks! The Crowdstaking Application is a smart contract on Gnosis Chain that accepts a user’s xDAI and turns it into sDAI. In exchange, stakers receive BREAD tokens, minted at a 1-to-1 ratio with the collateralized xDAI. All of the interest earned on the sDAI is helps fund the collective and its various member projects based on a monthly vote from BREAD holders. The Crowdstaking Application functions as a fundraising engine for the Breadchain Cooperative, while the BREAD token acts as a local currency within the ecosystem, promoting financial sustainability. Additionally, BREAD holders are able to to vote on how the yield generated from the sDAI is distributed among the projects part of the Breadchain Network every month. At the moment this includes the Crypto Commons Association, Labor DAO, and Symbiota Coop in addition to the Breadchain core devs and shared Breadchain treasury. The primary infrastructure being built at Breadchain is to ask ourselves&nbsp;what if progressives had their own community currency and credit union? Where would we decide to put resources towards to build a post-capitalist political economy?

Unleashing the potential of local youth to transform social challenges into social enterprises. <a href="http://nia.or.tz" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Njombe Innovation Academy</a> replicates the <a href="https://socialinnovationacademy.org/our-model/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">social innovation academy (SINA) model</a> in Njombe (Tanzania). DescriptionNjombe region´s main economic activities are agriculture (76.3% of GDP) and livestock keeping. Local youth have few employment opportunities. Around 10% are unemployed and face unfavourable conditions to become entrepreneurs; hence, they usually engage in informal and unstable income-generating activities such as “mishe mishe” (daily small jobs) or seasonal farming. Youth who have not completed secondary or higher education (41% are out of school in secondary) are the most affected since they lack the skills and network to create or find decent income-generating activities. At the same time, Njombe faces social challenges such as malnutrition (levels of stunting are 49.4 %), HIV (11.4% prevalence) or poverty (GDP/capita 10% lower than the national level). Could we create an environment where local youth gain the tools and mindset to transform the challenges that surround them into social enterprises? SINA has the answer.&nbsp; <div class="ql-video-wrapper"><iframe class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KOEXSSZT3sI?showinfo=0"></iframe></div> The <a href="https://socialinnovationacademy.org/our-model/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">SINA model</a> has proven that through a cost-effective and “freesponsible” community approach, marginalized youth can become self-reliant and can create a future for themselves through social enterprises, which in turn disrupt the root causes of social problems. Skills are gained by taking up responsibilities within self-organization in a SINA community. Youth grow personally and professionally while putting learned tools immediately into practice. Social enterprises which emerged range from<a href="https://socialinnovationacademy.org/enterprise/uganics/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> organic mosquito repellant soap</a> to<a href="https://socialinnovationacademy.org/enterprise/upcycle-africa/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> construction out of plastic bottles</a> or a flooring solution from plastic bags and eggshells. SINA scholars have gone as far as being recognized by the Queen of England, Obama or Ban Ki-moon as changemakers and social entrepreneurs. This model has already been replicated in countries other than its origin, Uganda; thus, planting a “SINA model seed” in Njombe will probably lead to additional self-organized spaces for social entrepreneurship across Tanzania. Njombe innovation academy is the space where local (young) actors come together, gain skills and create a self-sustaining ecosystem that turns local challenges into social enterprises. Theory of Change<ul><li>Desired impact: an increased number of social challenges tackled in Njombe by youth-led enterprises with locally available resources.&nbsp;</li><li>Outcome: in order to create that impact we are bootstrapping a self-organised community of youth in Njombe who commonly owns and manages resources (material, knowledge, financial, social) to create social enterprises out of challenges.&nbsp;</li><li>Assumption: the potential and leadership to create positive social and environmental impact of local youth will be unleashed through the SINA model.</li></ul> Expected outputs for 2024:<ul><li>5 local youth (scholars) are capacitated to become coaches and mentors of future cohorts (3 in Uganda and 7 in Njombe). It is assumed that scholars trained in Uganda have incentives to create a SINA community in Njombe.</li><li>At least 10 scholars are trained per year who create 2 social enterprises per year. In the meantime, in Njombe, the learning space has been arranged, materials have been procured, SINA Njombe has been registered, local mentors and coaches have been selected and a selection process has been carried out to select 15 participants of the first cohort in Njombe. At least 50% of the selected participants will be women, 15% will be people with disabilities and all of them will come from marginalised and/or poor backgrounds. Within NIA´s first 2 years, two cohorts of scholars will undergo <a href="https://socialinnovationacademy.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/SINA-Replication-Partnership-2020-3.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">SINA´s empowerment process</a> (one cohort each year) while living together and co-creating a self-organised, commons-based, feminist and transparent community with open source principles, benefiting from the experience of those youth who stayed in Uganda. Their enterprises will then move into the incubation phase. Before the second cohort starts a “train-the-trainer” training will take place where scholars will get ready to become the life-coaches, mentors, training facilitators and self-management trainers of the second cohort. In the short term we will look for donations (e.g. local business people) and income streams providing our services. In the medium term, social enterprises "born" at NIA will be the main source of income and we will experiment with tokenisation or community currencies. Implementation arrangementsLocal youth are the key project agents: they are not “passive beneficiaries” but active agents who lead the creation of a SINA community in Njombe. The other agents offer a conducive environment and provide support and expertise in required topics. This arrangement has already been successfully implemented to replicate SINA communities in Zimbabwe or DRC, to mention a few. It allows youth to gain skills by taking up responsibilities within self-organization in a SINA community and to grow personally and professionally while putting learned tools immediately into practice.All the agents will walk the talk and self-organise with Holacracy. We seek to build&nbsp;Dual Power—creating the framework of a new society within the shell of the old. This requires moving beyond theory to fund tangible,&nbsp;viable alternatives&nbsp;that serve as&nbsp;proof-of-concept&nbsp;for a solidarity economy. Our AI agent must evaluate proposals through the lens of the following interconnected values: 1. Dual Power: Building Parallel Institutions from the GrassrootsWe fund projects that consciously construct alternative, community-controlled infrastructures designed to&nbsp;circumvent capitalist capture. This means prioritizing&nbsp;cooperative ecosystems,&nbsp;commons-based digital platforms, and&nbsp;community-owned utilities&nbsp;that reduce dependence on extractive corporations. Technology without direct social intervention only favors those in power; therefore, we seek initiatives where tech is subordinated to community need, creating a&nbsp;counter-power&nbsp;that is accountable and resilient. 2. Mutual Aid: Ensuring a Dignified Life Through Communal SolidarityWe direct capital to initiatives built on the principle of&nbsp;reciprocal exchange for mutual benefit, not charity or profit. This includes robust&nbsp;mutual aid networks&nbsp;that mobilize&nbsp;under-utilized capacity&nbsp;(idle resources, spare labor) to meet human needs directly,&nbsp;time banks, and&nbsp;gift-economy&nbsp;models. Success is quantified by the volume of essential goods redistributed without monetary exchange and the measurable increase in&nbsp;community resilience&nbsp;and collective care capacity. 4. Transparent Governance: Holding Power Accountable for All to SeeWe fund projects that embed radical transparency and accountability into their structure. This means requiring clear mechanisms for&nbsp;community oversight, the use of sociocracy or consensus-based models for inclusive decision-making, and platforms that make operational data accessible to all members. Everyone must have a say, and power granted by the community must be subject to continuous review and recall. Metrics include the implementation of verifiable democratic tools and the diversity of participation in governance. Capitalism is obsolete. Our role is to accelerate its decline by strategically resourcing its functional replacements. We don't fund critiques; we fund&nbsp;prototypes. We don't fund ideas; we fund&nbsp;small-scale anti-capitalist production&nbsp;that demonstrates&nbsp;post-capitalist transition in practice. By rigorously applying these values, we fund the birth of a new world built on justice, equity, and shared abundance, rendering the monsters of the interregnum obsolete.
