Platohedro Annual Report 2024

Matinée Program

In 2024, Matinée worked with children at two locations: Platohedro’s headquarters and the El Faro neighborhood. Key activities included rights advocacy campaigns with Plataforma Tres Voces, focusing on preventing child sexual abuse and exploitation. Through the "Mi Casa" project, children designed dream home models, sparking discussions about their rights and aspirations. The year ended with a Christmas gift campaign and community celebration.

Amapolas Program

Amapolas strengthened women’s empowerment through training with Universidad ECCI, which improved participants' communication strategies for their businesses. Members showcased their work at a university fair and engaged in creative workshops on party decoration and candle-making at Platohedro.

Local Artist Residencies

The Art and Thought program hosted "Juntxs: Estrategias Colectivas para el Cuidado del Agua," a cycle of residencies focused on water conservation. Three women artists used collaborative methods and creative activities to foster environmental awareness and collective responsibility for water care in Medellín.

Web3 Wasi

Web3 Wasi advanced its mission of bridging technology and community:

  • Cypher Radio: Produced in partnership with La Esquina Radio, the show completed its second and third seasons, with the latter supported by ETH Kipu.
  • Cultural Podcasts: Funded by Medellín's participatory budget, six podcasts introduced cultural organizations to Web3, emphasizing blockchain's potential for the arts.

Challenges and Resilience

Despite a challenging first half of the year, Platohedro achieved substantial progress in the second half, driven by its dedicated team.

Looking Forward

Platohedro closes 2024 with significant achievements, continuing to empower communities through creativity, technology, Arts and collective action.

UPDATE #4 What's been going on ( part one)

D-Formation Program

In this program, we have been working continuously and we want to share with you some of our recent activities:

Matinee

Our three groups, comprising more than 150 children from the Buenos Aires and El Faro underrepresented neighborhoods, resumed the 'My Dream House' project, focusing on their rights to proper living conditions, access to water, sewage, electricity, and all the leisure areas and space they currently lack. These beautiful homes are being renovated for exhibition.

AMAPOLAS

The Amapolas women's group has expanded significantly, with more women participating in various activities each session. This growth underscores the project's success and the community's enthusiasm. As our group continues to grow, there is an increasing need for additional funding to support our activities. Moreover, due to limited space, we may soon need to explore options such as finding volunteers to assist with childcare during workshops, ensuring all interested women can participate fully.

They have been learning candle making and have started a personal savings initiative by decorating their piggy banks. These piggy banks will be opened at the end of the year.

Ideatorio

We have been able to start the Ideatorio group with adolescents from El Faro, which fills us with happiness, as this is a community that had been eager for us to begin this process. Some of these adolescents are former participants of Matinee, the children's group. With funding from Tactical Tech, we have been able to offer them research workshops using the "Exposing the Invisible" methodology.

Participating and being part of training and networking spaces with other organizations is key for Platohedro. On this occasion, two youth leaders from the Ideatorio project are participating in a youth political advocacy training.

Highlights of the first trimester of 2024(part two)

The Comic Autobiography Laboratory led by resident artist Sara Woolley was a remarkable accomplishment for our Art & Thought program. Participants learned to express their personal stories through four workshops. It was a liberating experience, allowing them to narrate their tales in a visual language. Their deeply personal and moving stories reflected a significant transformation: despite most lacking backgrounds in art schools, all participants learned to blend image and word, thus discovering their voices throughout the workshop series.

The Web3 Wasi program has been expanding its Web 3 education initiative for social and cultural organizations in the city. This effort materialized thanks to the support of Meta Pool through five workshops with 20 organizations from the Live Community Culture (CVC- Cultura Viva Comunitaria) platform.

Additionally, Web3Wasi began the first training phase for new developers in collaboration with ETH Kipu, with a focus on learning to develop in Solidity.

Regarding our line of infrastructure in Web3Wasi, we're continuing to expand in Nym with the addition of two new nodes and three gateways. Additionally, we're further supporting community development through workshops and providing support on Nym's Spanish and Daoariwas social media channels.

Hey there, listeners! Tune in to Cypher Radio, your gateway to the world of web3 technology and beyond. We're currently in the second season of our radio program, Cypher Radio, in partnership with La Esquina Radio.. With 5 episodes already aired this season, we've brought you various guests and topics to help our listeners delve deeper into the web3 world, broadcasting live on 101.4 FM or streaming online at https://podcast.platohedro.org/cypheradio

Highlights of the first trimester of 2024(part one)

Platohedro, a space where technology, art and education converge in search of building together and with many a Good Living (Buen Vivir), From interactive art workshops to research residencies, each activity is designed to encourage creativity and the exchange of knowledge.

In our projects, such as Web3Wasi, Art & Thought and D-Formation, we work to create a space for creation and critical thinking. Our processes are open (free of charge), safe and inclusive, always seeking to improve our relationships with ourselves, with others and with the environment, reaching all people and beings, human and non-human.

Here, children are the main actors, followed by youth, families, women and disadvantaged communities in the city. Their accomplices for change are the artists, activists, scientists, and dreamers who come together to collaborate on projects that transcend borders and help open minds.

What will you find in Platohedro? Robotics workshops for children, virtual reality installations, artistic performances that challenge perception... The list is endless. But beyond the activities, what really defines Platohedro is its community spirit and its commitment to social transformation.

Highlights of the first trimester of 2024:

Thanks to the support and collaboration of REFI Medellín, the Ideatory project commenced with two activities. Fifteen young participants engaged in maintaining and cleaning the Manga Libre (a public park in front of the Platohedro House), while also gaining insights into opening digital wallets and delving deeper into blockchain technology and regenerative finance (ReFi).
